Following on from last week's prehistoric Finds Friday we are moving on this week to the Roman period! This week’s find is a silver Roman finger ring dated from the 2nd to 3rd century AD.Instead of a gemstone, this ring’s bezel is inscribed with the letters ‘DMT’. It is unknown what these letters stand for, however it is likely to be referencing a god. The most likely is a local deity called Toutatis, often conflated with Mars, with the inscription meaning D(eo) M(arti) T(outati). This is the most likely deity as there are many other rings from the area dedicated to this god, though they usually inscribed with 'TOT'.Use the link below to search the database for more information and similar types of finger ring!Find image: DENO-8EAFE4 (finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/488242)Author: Jasmine PAS Volunteer#FindsFriday #roman #ring #romanring #silver #inscribed #treasure #findsrecording #sharinghistory #volunteer #volunteering #getinvolved #floderbynotts #pasnottinghamshire #pasderbyshire #pas ...
