In the Metal detecting hobby, it’s lucky to find a ring, a gold ring more so. But Pat Richmond is on a roll, discovering two Medieval rings in the same field.
In 2015, Pat found the first ring in a field in Winnick, Warrington. swinging away with her Garrett AT Pro, she unearthed the Gold ring. It was offered to her Finds Liaison officer and as well as cobalt blue glass that was identified, the ring was dated at between 1400 and 1500. The ring is a part of an inquest in July 2021
The second one was found in July 2020 on the same farm at Winnick the 2015 ring was found with an Minelab Vanquish. it has a turquoise stone, which is said to protect the wearer from evil spirits.
In Pats words – “I just felt so lucky to find the first ring and then when I found the second, I couldn’t believe it. I’ve been so lucky. I never give up on a field, every field has something in it. I see so many people rushing on fields, you have to take your time even if it takes you twice as long. I guess my age has slowed me down but I will never give up. Maybe in another 5 years, I will find a third.”
