Another great readers find sees Jeff Downs sharing his discovery of an 1851 U.S. Officers Sword Belt Plate.
Jeff discovered the belt plate in Ashfield, Virginia, USA using a Garrett AT Max.
The Belt plate is a Civil War U.S. Pattern 1851 eagle-wreath belt plate and black leather belt typical of those used by officers in the Union Army. The plate is the same as Plate 653 in O’Donnell’s and Campbell’s American Military Belt Plates. It is cast brass with integral wreath and applied broad tongue. The relief in the belt plate is highly detailed.. Measuring 83mm x 51mm.
Thanks to Jeff for allowing us to share his find.
