Blackbeard’s ship yields stunning find – pirates were readers

Turns out there were readers on Blackbeard’s ship – and sleuths from the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources have figured out at least one book they read.

Edward Teach – known to history as Blackbeard – was a ferocious pirate based in the small North Carolina town of Bath for part of his career. He and his men aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, a ship armed with 40 guns, and other pirate vessels under his command terrorized ships in the region and were known for their cruelty.
